‘Steyningdale’ is based on the old Sussex market town of Steyning during the first half of the 20th century. The market was situated right alongside the railway station and provided the farmers from the surrounding area the opportunity to send their produce and livestock to London and Brighton.
The original L.B.S.C. (London Brighton & South Coast) Railway track plans were used for this model but with some foreshortening, particularly at the left hand side as viewed. The positioning of the buildings was not only taken from these plans but also from old photographs and scale maps of the area.
Only two of these buildings still exist today – but which two?
